"Animal agriculture is the leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 83% of all agricultural land and 35% of all habitable land on Earth. A whole food, plant-based diet has the lowest carbon footprint, and has also been proven to reverse the world's number one killer, heart disease. According to Climate Change 2022 (a report from the United Nations) a shift to a plant-based diet rich in pulses, nuts, fruits, and vegetables could lead to substantial reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The report states that other co-benefits include lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and reducing mortality from diet and lifestyle related diseases."
